The California energy crisis is a really good case.

First it shows that "free" markets ARE constructed.

Two, the rules were designed by economists and lawyers who did know what would happen -- so much that PG&E spun itself a parent corporation that transferred the wealth to New Jersey. And the whole thing was administered so that oversight was fettered.

Maybe California was getting to influential -- the phones and banks are now controlled from other states now.
